Man goes to girlfriend's village with a pistol, punished by angry mob in Murshidabad

Murshidabad - A shocking incident unfolded in Dighri village of Samsherganj Police Station on Saturday evening, when an enraged boyfriend, accompanied by two friends, arrived at his girlfriend's house armed with a pistol. However, their malicious intentions were thwarted as vigilant locals apprehended the lover and subjected him to a public punishment, tying him to an electric pole and drenching him. The police later arrested him.

The accused, who had been involved in a romantic relationship for a significant period, faced a complaint alleging that he had confronted his girlfriend's family while brandishing a firearm. The distressing scenario unfolded when residents noticed three armed individuals entering the area and immediately began pursuing them. The Samsherganj police swiftly responded to the situation and apprehended one of the armed youths.

According to sources, the arrested individual hails from the Samsherganj police station area. Local reports suggest that one of the three detained individuals was romantically involved with a girl from Dighari village. However, due to a rift in their relationship, the girl desired to sever ties with her lover, prompting him to make a threatening appearance at her residence with a loaded pistol. Before he could enter the house, the surrounding residents swiftly surrounded and captured him.

The police are presently investigating the motive behind the group's armed entry into the village, determining whether it was solely linked to the romantic affair or if there were additional factors at play. A search operation has been initiated in the Samsherganj area of Murshidabad district to locate the remaining absconding individuals associated with the incident.

Meanwhile, just a day prior, a heart-wrenching incident occurred in Baruipur, where a young man tragically took his own life by hanging himself after a rift with his girlfriend. The deceased's family alleges that the girl's family disapproved of their relationship.

The couple's discord arose due to financial disparities, with the girl's family objecting to the union due to the boy's economic background. Tragically, on Friday night, a young man named Rakesh Mandal committed this unfortunate act.
